OUR STORY
Little Stars are born…..
Adams County Youth Wrestling (ACYW) Club was established to create an alternative option for Youth Wrestlers & Wrestling Parents; “Our Wrestling Family”, who loved the sport of Wrestling, but couldn’t seem to find a path within today’s traditional scholastic club options that fit their specific needs.
By listening to our Wrestling Families, we realized that many of them were not happy with the limitations that were being placed upon them by local, traditional scholastic club programs (demographic restrictions, financial requirements, scheduling conflicts, control over events, mandatory participation, etc.).
Furthermore, most of these traditional club options were often hampered by outdated bylaws that prevented them from allowing a more customized approach that suited each individual Wrestling Family’s goals, or in some cases each individual child’s needs within their family (dominant siblings, females, hyper-competitive children, labeled children/behavioral cases, children with financial/sociological limitations, etc.).
Initially, our goal was to enhance the traditional 4-month Scholastic Wrestling Season (November through February) by allowing our Club Members to participate in Traditional Club Sponsored League Events (engaged within community/Scholastic Teams), while also working with our Wrestling Family at their own leisure, normally for Non-League Events (Tournaments, Competitive Dual Meets, Clinics/Camps, etc.).
Over time, as our participation numbers grew along with our success, we evolved into a year-around club that catered to wrestlers of all ages, skill-levels, and styles.
Today, our wrestling family is quite expansive as we have developed key affiliations with other non-scholastic privately-funded independent clubs within our region. These clubs that share our vision of Wrestling Autonomy (our Family Members are free to come and go as they please), have become ACYW’s “Extended Wrestling Family”.
Many of our wrestlers still participate with their local – scholastic club programs, but ONLY for Club Sponsored Events/League Matches (and end-of-year tournaments). Additionally, they also play many other sports, and ACYW supports this multi-sport approach and endorses the flexibility that it allows. These Scholastic All-Stars are “Our Purpose”, they are Our Keystone Stars!
At ACYW, our success has always been our ability to keep our Keystone Stars engaged, having fun, and supportive of one another regardless of school district, background, or club affiliations. We have helped to bridge many gaps, and used wrestling as community building platform.
Our primary focus lies in our dedication to helping our Keystone Stars grow as student athletes as well as individuals. Equally as important to us, is our ability to allow their parents to dictate what this success model looks like. Our role is to support Our Wrestling Families as they navigate this sport we love, while also developing options otherwise unattainable through traditional club options.
We have replaced bylaws with a governing body of parents, and we allow our Keystone Stars to guide us along a path that best suites their future goals and needs as a whole. No one wrestler is more important than the next (so, NO favoritism towards Coaches Kids!).
